 "Still under evaluation..." 2010-05-28
By Joseph K. Bagdonas (Suburbs of Chicago)
Purchased one of these late in the season, had lots of problems with getting it started. Eventually exchanged it, new one works better, although still can't seem to start it on the first attempt.

Had only used it a few times until the weather warmed up enough to where a heater wasn't needed, so won't be using it again until the next winter season again.

So will be keeping my fingers crossed that it will store well over the summer, (indoors), and that I won't have any problems with it the next time I need it, as surely the warranty will be over at that point.

Had also purchased an similar type 'expensive' Coleman heater and wasn't impressed with the BTU output of that. This portable heater seems to have the highest BTU output os all similar type heaters on the market.

So still hope I won't have starting issues when next used.

Don't waste your money. It sputters, won't stay lite, and it caught on fire.
This product is unsafe. You are better off freezing your buns off then buying this.

 "Stansport Portable Golf Heater" 2010-01-25
By Ronald L. Collins (Mena, AR, USA)
The Heater provides plenty of heat in a covered Golf Cart during 40 Degree weather. The Instructions say to open the Valve 3/4 turn, but not in which direction. The graphics on the Knob would lead a person to think OPEN is CW as the Red Stripe gets wider as the knob is turned CW. WRONG!!! Standard valve, just turn CCW to open. Also, My valve only turns 1/2 turn, OFF to full ON.

 "Defective heater" 2010-01-11
By Michael Jones (dunedin, fl United States)
I assembled this heater with a new 16.4 oz. propane canister and started it. It worked for 3 or 4 minutes, then began sputtering very loudly. The noise was loud enough to startle everybody in the vicinity. The heater continued to sputter and eventually lost all heat, whereupon it was shut down.
I removed the propane cylinder and installed it into an older heater and it worked fine, so that eliminated the propane cylinder as the problem.
I tested the Stansport heater again later in the day and it worked for about 10 minutes without failing.
I brought it to the golf course the next day. The ambient temperature was in the low 30's and winds were gusting to 15 mph or more. On the 3rd hole, I tried to light the heater with the piezo device but it just wouldn't start. So I lit it with a cigar lighter, which still took some time, but it finally started heating. At the end of that hole, while we were on the green, the loud sputtering erupted and the heater was done for the day.
Even in calm air this heater is difficult to bring to full heat. The button on the starter device must be held for about a minute before it reaches full power.
The good news is that Amazon makes it very easy to return defective items.
